Saturday, April 29 SF Jazz Family Matinee – San Francisco Winners of the 2023 GRAMMY Award for Best Children’s Album, Alphabet Rockers return to the SFJAZZ stage to bring the community together in true Rockers fashion, with a celebratory performance exploring elements of hip hop, and shared moments to reflect, express and uplift affirmations.

Children of the Dragon – San Jose Explore rich Vietnamese traditions at this festive celebration. Don’t miss the thrilling Lion and Dragon dances. Make a dragon puppet, pose for a commemorative family photo in a xich-lo, and stop by the theatre to watch a short video to learn more about Vietnamese cultural heritage and the legend of Children of the Dragon.

The Song of the Nightingale a Musical Fairytale – Pleasanton When Mei Lin, an ambitious kitchen-maid, hears that the Emperor of China is searching for the Nightingale, the bird whose song brings hope to the people of the land, she offers to help find and capture the bird in exchange for a lofty promotion. However, Mei Lin soon learns that the Emperor is a foolish ruler who cannot see beyond the bird’s plain outer appearance. Song of the Nightingale is a magical, musical romp that reminds us that true beauty and worth is always found within.

Giraffes Can’t Dance by Bay Area Children’s Theatre – Berkeley, through June 4 All the animals in the jungle know their own special dance, but Gerald the Giraffe can’t seem to move without a clumsy step. But with the help of a wise cricket, he finds his own song, and dances to the beat of his own drum! In this stage adaptation of the beloved children’s book, with puppets, African rhythm, and lots of dancing, Gerald learns that his differences are what make him special.

Blackfest 2023 – Stanford, May 6 Blackfest is the largest free hip-hop event in the Bay Area, hosted by the Black Family Gathering Committee at Stanford University. The annual event provides a space for the Black community to come together. Blackfest features everything from food, clothing, and jewelry vendors to student artists, student dance performances, and more.
