Friday, January 4 First Friday Winter Skies at Chabot Space & Science Center – Oakland Get the inside scoop on everyone’s favorite dwarf planet, Pluto and winter’s constellations. Then, gaze into the depths of the cosmos with a virtual reality installation, live Sky Tonight Zeiss Planetarium Show, Telescope Viewing! This event brings together the best of Chabot’s themed workshops, music, talks and more.

First Friday Night at Curiodyssey – San Mateo Swing into the weekend with music, science, animals and fun! On the first Friday of every month, from 5 pm until 8 pm, where parents and kids celebrate together at CuriOdyssey. Dance to some of your favorite pop and rock hits. Purchase dinner from Fletch’s hot foods and beer or wine from our bar.

Saturday, January 5 Lunar New Year at Children’s Discovery Museum – San Jose Kick off the Year of the Tiger at our annual Lunar New Year program, bringing together Chinese and Vietnamese traditions. Create your own branch of beautiful flowers to symbolize health, prosperity, and good fortune in the coming year. Enjoy story time in the amphitheater, “Bringing in the New Year” by Grace Lin, and then learn some basic lion dance steps in a facilitated activity. Learn more about the meaning behind Lunar New Year and the rich customs of family, friends, and neighbors as we welcome in the new year together.

Lunar New Year at San Jose Museum of Art – San Jose Join SJMA in welcoming the year of the Tiger with virtual artmaking activities, cultural demonstrations, and live performances. This contemporary celebration honors Lunar New Year traditions commemorated both around the globe and here in San José. Explore and create with family and friends during this multigenerational program.

Sunday, January 6 Glowfari at Oakland Zoo – Oakland Glowfari is an unforgettable experience for all ages to enjoy! Featuring hundreds of larger-than-life glowing animal lanterns throughout the Zoo; and with all-new animals displays for 2021! Take a mile-long illuminated stroll through the Zoo and visit the desert with camels and bighorn sheep, have an African safari adventure with elephants, giraffes, and an 8-foot crocodile head, walk through the forests of Asia to meet red and giant pandas – and of course ride the gondola to the land of bugs featuring a 65-foot Queen Ant Tunnel!
