Teens Need 8 Hours Of Sleep A Night To Be Healthy

A new study by the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research reveals that night owl teens are more likely to become obese than teenagers, who get a good night's sleep. Researcher Jesus Gomez says he and his team studied scores of teenagers and found that young adults, who get less than eight hours of sleep a night are likely to be overweight or obese. They also have high blood pressure and high glucose levels. “Our study shows that most teenagers do not get enough sleep and this is connected with excess weight and characteristics that promote weight gain, potentially setting them up for future problems. We are currently investigating whether poor sleep habits are related to excessive screen time, which could explain why older adolescents get even less sleep than younger ones.”

Dear Fonseca

My business partner and I are in the planning stages of opening a restaurant. It will be upscale casual. He and I disagree on several things including a child surcharge. I think we should add a surcharge to people's bills if they dine in our restaurant with their children. Most children are loud and out of control at restaurants. I hope the surcharge discourages parents from bringing their noisy kids into our restaurant and disturbing others. My business partner is against the idea and says it will give us a bad rap. What do you think about a child surcharge? Do you side with me or my partner?
