Dear Fonseca
My mother, mother-in-law and every other relative seems to be upset with me for the way my husband and I are parenting our three children. We have a three-and-a-half year-old daughter and twin sons who are two years-old. They are all going through the Terrible Twos. My mother and mother-in-law think I should coddle the children when they start throwing temper tantrums. They were over last weekend and freaked out when I put on a pair of noise canceling headphones like landscapers and runway workers do. They thought I was kidding. I let the kids cry and wear themselves out rather than respond to their tantrums. The headphones keep me sane. My mother and mother-in-law say that is poor parenting. I'm the one going through it not them so I disagree. What do you think? Is it wrong that I'm using noise canceling headphones to drown out my children? Should you allow a child to cry themselves out during a tantrum or coddle them?
